Sunday Science: The Truth about Wolves

Presenter: Rebecca Burkhalter

Rebecca Burkhalter of Colorado Wild will present the science behind wolves and collaborative solutions that work for everyone.

According to Burkhalter, wolves are deeply misunderstood carnivores who desperately need our help. Wolves are absolutely essential to healthy ecosystems, yet they continue to be persecuted. Among the questions she will address are: Is coexisting with wolves possible?  What is happening with Colorado’s wolves?  What good are wolves anyway?

Burkhalter earned her ecology degree from the University of North Texas and has been working with wild canids in captivity for about six years. She represents Colorado Wild as the speaker. Colorado Wild is a small group of scientists and advocates who work to educate Colorado about our wildlife and wildlands.

Sunday Science for September will be September 6, which is the Labor Day holiday AND the yard sale. Still, I hope many of you will be able to attend and hear from Becca Sue from the group Colorado Wild. This group supports utilizing both western science and traditional ecological knowledge to guide the protection and restoration of Colorado’s native wildlife. She will be specifically discussing the reintroduction of wolves – pros and challenges.

Sunday Science takes place at A Church in Salida, at the corner of 4th and D Streets. Doors open at 9:30AM and the talk will start at 10. The Hospitality Committee welcomes any contributions to the “treat table,” including fruit and baked goods.
