He worked on GPS for aircraft for 25 years beginning with the first units designed for civil aviation in the late 80s. He has made good use of his designs by logging more than 7\,000 hours as a pilot. He holds Air Transport and Flight Instructor ratings in single and multiengine aircraft. \nBill rarely misses a mission with Chaffee County Search and Rescue (SAR) South and has been a member of the team for 5 years. He serves on hiking teams\, is part of the incident command team rotation\, manages the communication equipment\, and flies and manages the technical aspects of the SAR drones. \nSummary:\nBill will start with a brief history of the U.S. GPS system. He will then present a description of the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) which is made up of satellite constellations from six countries\, how it works and the coordinate systems they use.
