Join local geologist Cindy Williams for a talk on how local landscapes have been shaped by some amazing geologic events. The program will start with a brief geologic history of the Chaffee County area. With that history as a framework, we will take a virtual tour of land marks across the county and beyond. What amazing geologic tale connects the “Castles” near Trout Creek pass, Buffalo Peaks, Mt Shavano and Castle Rock? Is it true that Chaffee County was once the home of a massive volcano? Where did the giant boulders on the valley floor come from? Come learn the answers!
Bio:
Cindy Williams is an energetic community volunteer and the co-lead of Envision Chaffee County. Williams has worked for 30 years in the international mining industry. She served as Vice President of Solutions and Innovation and Vice President of Businesses Opportunity Creation at Newmont Mining, the world’s largest gold mining company. She has managed global exploration, innovation, energy and technical services functions, working in 13 countries. Cindy has a BSc and MSc in Economic Geology from Colorado State University.
